Welcome to Couples Thrive. I’m April.

I understand where couples get stuck and can help them make better sense of their relationship. I work with couples who feel lonely and frustrated and crave a safe haven where they can talk about their worries, fears and concerns without fear of judgment, disappointment or shame.

I help couples deal with moments of disconnection and create a space of safety where partners can reconnect with one another and provide shelter from heightened conflict, increased hostility and distress.

“Home” is in the arms of another, and with repetitive fights, misunderstandings and difficult communication styles, we often find ourselves yearning for that secure base we once had. Exasperated and hopeless when things don’t go as planned, we can feel more alone in our relationships than ever. We need loving contact like we need oxygen, and couples counseling can be a secure place to bridge the gap, speak more from the heart and work through tough seasons of life together.

I’m also a Bringing Baby Home Educator and help expecting and new parents prepare for life after baby by decreasing postpartum mood disorders, relationship conflict and hostility. Through therapy and my Bringing Baby Home workshop, I teach parents how to maintain a strong sense of friendship, improve intimacy and co-parent effectively.

In addition, I work with individuals and families who are struggling, overwhelmed and who feel restless in life. Individuals gain insight, clarity and a deeper understanding of their current circumstances, family struggles and life disappointments in order to achieve more strength and balance.

I’ve been helping individuals, couples and families for over 10 years and have an impressive background in couples and new-parenthood transitions. I have expert couples therapy training in Gottman-Method Couples Therapy and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, both research-based methods that help improve friendship, lessen conflict and strengthen the couple’s bond.
